Hershey's Chocolate Company Christmas Ornaments

Our temporary lobby exhibit for December is a collection of Hershey's Chocolate Company Christmas ornaments on loan to us by Pat Parker of Colby. Pat's collection of Hershey's ornaments span the years 1986 through 2004. Hershey's issued two new ornaments each year until they stopped in 2004.

Salt and Pepper Shakers

Our lobby exhibit of salt and pepper shakers for October is from the collection of Prairie Museum of Art & History. They were accumulated by two local collectors -- Alice Harrison and Olive Pridemore.

Salt and pepper shakers have been a collectible item for many years and remain so today. They appeal to collectors because they are readily available, affordable and don't take up much space. Shakers come in an array of colors, materials, and designs. Salt and pepper sets are also made from a wide variety of materials including metals, glass, porcelain, ceramic, plastic, and wood.

In addition to traditional salt and pepper shakers, matching salt shakers and pepper mills have become quite popular. Most pepper mills can be adjusted to determine how coarse or fine the peppercorns are ground.

Her collection consists of over 130 toothpick holders made of ceramic, glass, metal, and wood. Many of there were collected while traveling to 38 states as well as Canada and Mexico with her husband. She donated her collections to Prairie Museum of Art and History in 1999

Back to School

With area schools starting this month, we pulled objects from the collection at Prairie Museum of Art and History for a "Back to School" exhibit in our lobby. These are school essentials for students of all grade levels from years gone by.
