Vases

The temporary lobby exhibit for September is a selection of ceramic and porcelain vases from the collection of Prairie Museum of Art and History.

A vase is an open container for holding a single cut flower or collection of flowers in a supply of water. They are available in a variety of sizes to support whatever flower it is holding. The design was usually kept simple so as not to distract from the contents.

The typical style is a bulbous flat bottom base with a narrow neck flared at the top. Vases are usually made from a variety of materials including ceramics, glass, and non-rusting metals.

Back to School

Our temporary lobby exhibit for August features "Back to School" supplies, souvenirs, and memorbilia from the collection of Prairie Museum of Art and History. With schools starting this month, it is interesting to look back at some of the items students at all grade levels felt were necessary to complete their class assignments.

Our April temporary lobby exhibit is a collection of Easter Postcards from the private collection of Ray Imhof.

Although Ray doesn't actively collect postcards, he was fortunate to inherit a collection of cards with family messages on them. Most of the cards are postmarked 1903 through 1922.

Postcards of this time period were often greeting cards for holidays and special occasions. Others were humorous or are photographs of special places or events.
