Prairie Museum of Art & History Collections and Exhibits Colby, Kansas
With area schools starting this month, we pulled objects from the collection at Prairie Museum of Art and History for a "Back to School" exhibit in our lobby. These are school essentials for students of all grade levels from years gone by.

The lobby exhibit at Prairie Museum of Art and History for July is a collection of Del Monte and Dole plush figures on loan to us by Pat Parker. Pat began collecting Del Monte and Dole plushies in the early 1980s.
A person could save coupons from the labels of canned fruit or vegetables. When the required number of coupons was collected, they could then be mailed to the company to receive a free plush figure.
Most of the plush figures have been quite collectable over the years and can be found on online trading sites or in antique stores or at flea markets. Pat collected all of hers when they were new and available from Del Monte or Dole.
The temporary lobby exhibit for April is a selection of advertising caps from the holdings of Prairie Museum of Art and History.
Advertising caps are not only a promotional item for local businesses and organizations, they are also useful. Most are very colorful and include the business logo or trademark. Many are made of mesh fabric for summer wear, but some are also heavy material for winter warmth.
